There’s no doubt that Boardmasters in 2016 was one of the absolute highlights of the summer season. What more could you look for in a music festival; brilliant weather on the Cornish coastline, three miles worth of sandy beaches between the twin sites of Fistral and Watergate Bay, and a quality mix of emerging and established artists across the four day weekend.
As we get through the depressing depths of January, all eyes are on the summer’s major line-ups to see who gets snapped up by who, and which festivals will guarantee to get those early weekend planners filled. Boardmasters have just released their first line-up announcement for this coming August, and it’s fair to say, you should clear your schedule for this one:
Fresh from the release of their third album Gameshow back in October, Two Door Cinema Club will open the weekend, headlining on the Friday night at Boardmasters. After the band’s triumphant headline slot at Latitude in 2015, and in the upper echelons of the Main Stage at Reading and Leeds the same year, Amazing Radio favourites Alt-J return to the festival scene to close the Sunday night. And music fans of all generations will be particularly excited to see the return of Jamiroquai, who’s funk/acid jazz styled musings will go down a treat this August in Newquay.
It’s not just the headliners of course – joining them throughout the weekend are drum-and-bass extraordinaire Andy C, indie troubadour Jake Bugg, and punk rockers Slaves. Elsewhere on the bill, you can catch Patrick Topping, Wild Beasts, Roger Sanchez, Becky Hill, Solardo, TQD, Theo Kottis, Tom Grennan, Cadenza and Youngr. Many, many more artists are still to be announced, with over 200 acts appearing at the festival in 2016 – and that’s before we even mention the surfing and other water sports.

Boardmasters 2017 takes place on the 9-13th August, with 5 day camping priced at £154, including Wednesday to Monday festival entry, standard camping and access to Fistral Beach for all surfing, skate and BMX competitions. Children aged 7 and under come free of charge. A deposit scheme also allows you to pay £30 now, and pay the remaining amount by Friday 30 June 2017. Full ticket details and prices are available here.
