Kicking off my picks for tonight are Local Natives. The Los Angeles Indie outfit have returned with their follow up to Hummingbird. Ahead of the release date, the band set up a Tumblr page with an immersive listening experience – complete with artwork and visuals of the recording process. They play Rough Trade East tonight, for a special launch of Sunlit Youth, which is out tomorrow. It is a free event, however, tickets are going fast, so get down earlier in the day to secure yourself a place in the crowd.
My second choice of the day comes courtesy of Frankie Cosmos. With an incredible self-released back catalogue under her belt, she is regarded as one of the best DIY indie exports of recent years. Tonight, she plays the Dome in London, with support from Aldous Harding and Brunch.
For my gig of the day, get down to XOYO for Mystic Bounce with George the Poet and DJ sets from Tom Misch and DJ Milktray. My pick from the lineup is Tom Misch, who’s recently released EP Reverie has been extremely well received. With Misch’s sister on sax and friend Loyle Carner on the rhymes, you can tell that this release has been well thought through by the 21-year-old London producer. All four tracks on the EP are fully instrumental, which is proof alongside a Facebook illustrating Misch’s home recording set up, that he is preparing to release his debut album.
